1ST DEFENSE MIND BODY MEDICINE

WHAT MAKES US BETTER MAKES YOU BETTER

1st Defense is one of the few wellness centers in all of California to provide Chinese Medicine in its entirety:  acupuncture, bodywork, nutritional counseling, herbal remedies, qi gong and nei gong and martial arts.  We offer care for the body, mind and spirit using a full complement of Asian medicine modalities.

Our practitioners are highly credentialed. Doctorates of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (DAOM) are awarded to a small minority of professionals.  Doctors Gibson and deWolfe completed rigorous six year courses of study to earn doctorates at Emperor’s College,  fellowships at Good Samaritan Hospital in Los Angeles and, in the case of Dr. Gibson, post-doctoral training in Kunming China.

Dr. deWolfe has studied martial arts for over 35 years, mastering a number of styles and earning multiple black belts.

We integrate. As a Native American,  Dr. deWolfe was raised on Mi’kmaq ancenstral land, where he learned the history and customs of his people.  His heritage, rich in exploration and invention, is a guiding force in all facets of the healing arts he practices:  the goal being “what works”.   Forging a path to wellness often means a mixture of disciplines, not just the traditional modalities of Chinese Medicine that are the foundation of our practice.   Complementary therapies,  such as yoga, therapeutic massage, indigenous healing and more often enhance results.

We innovate.  To best serve patients,  Dr. deWolfe endeavors to make care more accessible and effective.  After studying a wide range of martial arts for over three decades,  Dr. deWolfe sought the essence of  martial arts–the foundation of all styles.  Dr. deWolfe created Three Circles, a template that is revolutionary in its simplicity and totality.  This is a style of martial arts that anyone can learn, easily.  A style that brings the mind, body and spirit into perfect balance.

As an alternative to acupuncture, Dr. deWolfe developed Standing Wave Therapy.  This proprietary modality uses vibrational therapy along traditional meridians to restore vitality. Standing Wave provides continual feedback so blockages and imbalances can be identified and treated on an immediate basis.   This is not only helpful in relieving pain, but also in building overall energy, strength and immunity.

We partner with patients.   Our job is to help you realize your best self:  healthy and strong. We diagnose imbalances, and then work with you to develop a treatment plan, which not only includes modalities such as acupuncture or herbal remedies on a short term basis, but diet, exercise and lifestyle recommendations on a long term basis.  Chinese Medicine requires an active, all-encompassing approach because it treats the whole person.   We consider it a privilege to support you in your journey to optimal health, no matter where you begin.  As one patient put it “they meet you where you’re at, and take you further than you thought possible.”
